Outreach & Leadership
The world needs solutions and excellent science can solve problems.
Excellence in science can be achieved by integrating different disciplines, theoretical, numerical, and experimental techniques. I am actively working to create networking spaces to bring together different visions to approach research and solve problems of interest to Society.
I am currently President of the Postdoc Association of the University of Geneva (visit our webpage here).
From October 1st 2021, I will be joining the IOP Biological Physics Group Committee for 4 years.
Some of the activities I organize can be found below.

WHY I AM ORGANIZING THIS EVENT
Nowadays, the value of women leaders is widely recognized in the business sector , and this trend is also being considered in other areas (see for example the initiatives at local and international levels to support women in science ). However, for historical and socio-cultural reasons most leadership positions are occupied by men and the scientific community is not an exception .
With this series of talks, I want to open the discussion to try to find solutions to this problem together. By starting the meeting with the exposition of a leading female researcher, I would like to promote a dialogue to share different experiences and learn from those who succeed in this path.
The first edition was held online but I hope to organize the next ones in person. Please do not hesitate to send me your proposals to invite other leader women that can be inspiring role models to promote women in science.

UNIGE POSTDOC DAY
May 27, 2021
I am co-organizing a one-day meeting between members of The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva.
We invited three key-note speakers to present their work and to share with us their scientific visions and perspectives. They all have brilliant and outstanding careers and will share their paths with us. They do not just do amazing science, they are also committed to improving different dimensions of the scientific system.
We organized a "round-table" discussion about Careers options, including Academics, Industry, and Publishing. For this discussion, we invited former Postdoctoral researchers of our University who are now successfully developing their careers in different positions.
There will also be contributed talks of postdoctoral researchers of our University, and a poster exhibition, with prizes for both, the best talk and the best poster presentation.

By the Rector of the University of Geneva,
Prof. Dr. Yves Flückiger
Zena obtained her PhD in Mathematical Biology at the University College London. She was an HFPS fellow working at the University of Geneva and the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. She now joined EPFL with an SNSF Eccellenza Fellowship.
Postdoctoral fellows can submit an abstract to present their current research with a talk.
We are planning an interactive poster session. You are welcomed to submit yours.
For the best talk and the best poster presentation.
